James Joyce (1882-1941) is one of the most important and influential writers of the twentieth century. His literary Modernist works used writing techniques that were experimental for the time. Perhaps his most famous work, Ulysses (1922) is best known for its use of interior monologue, revealing the innermost thoughts and feelings of characters in a stream of consciousness style. Joyce\'s portrayal of human nature, alongside vivid depictions of life in Dublin, have cemented him as a major literary influence to writers throughout and beyond the twentieth century.
