Dr. Cathcart takes his nephew Simpson moose hunting, along with their hired cook, Punk, their hired guide Hank Davies, and friend Joseph Devago. The trip is arduous; three days portage into the deep, unfriendly woods that is full of strange sounds, and eerie smells that none of them can place. It is a wild place, far from civilization that puts the entire group on edge as they traverse across the land. Winter will be upon them soon. As they walk, Cathcart listens to his companion\'s tales of creature residing deep in the forestt. The Wendigo, a cannibalistic monster who has been spotted by locals for years, is said to be brutal with its victims. But that\'s all just a fairy tale - an old legend of mythical proportions, isn\'t it? Though Cathcart believes that the majority of the so-called witnesses to this beast just had a collective hallucination, he sets out with his group to see if he could find this Wendigo for himself. Defago takes off unexpectantly, followed closely by Simpson. The man is so fast that Simpson is unable to catch up to him, only is able to see the strange prints that Defago has been chasing before the tracks stop completely. He hears Defago\'s screams in the distance, and rushes off to try and save him. When Defago finally returns to their camp, he seems to be acting in a very strange manner. Simpson is convinced this isn\'t the same man they knew. He\'s different.
