John Ford\'s The Quiet Man (1952) is the most popular cinematic representation of Ireland, and one of Hollywood\'s classic romantic comedies.
He was born and grew up in County Mayo, just a few miles from where The Quiet Man was.
He is author of The Complete Guide to the Quiet Man (Appletree Press 2000) and Picture the Quiet Man (Appletree Press 2004).
About the Author Des Mac Hale is Emeritus Professor at University College Cork where he taught for forty years.
