The reason behind publishing this course is simple. Over the last few years, teachers and adults have asked me to teach them the same fundamental tactics to increase their awareness and street sense. There are simply not enough hours in the day for me to coach everyone face to face, so the obvious answer was for me to create our very first self-defence manual. When people talk about self-defence, everyone immediately thinks of an 8 stone woman throwing a 15 stone man over her shoulder and stamping on his groin. When in reality many situations can be avoided by using common sense tactics and talking your way out of a situation. Learning to be positive and assertive are a must. Self-defence also includes communication skills, streetwise tactics and positive body posture. There are many techniques we can use before combat. Not all attackers are strangers, 4 out of 10 men who attack women are already known to the victim, even friends and family members have been convicted of physical and sexual abuse.
