Secondly, the belief in their common origin and future fate could not fail to be a strong bond of union between the different portions of the nation, and this must be of the greatest importance in view of the attempts which are now being made to set class against class and to disintegrate the nation by separating certain portions from the remainder. (This would be the effect of giving Home Rule, as urged by some, to Scotland and Wales as if they were distinct peoples to the English.)
