This index to the Public Claims is particularly valuable, therefore, because it contains names of patriots whose services are recorded in no other place unless they rendered military as well as non-military service.
This list was compiled for the benefit of those who desire to trace Ancestors who gave service in the Revolutionary War but whose names do not appear in the published indexes and rolls of Revolutionary soldiers and sailors.
Claims were registered for people who nursed the sick and wounded, fed the troops, furnished supplies, buried the dead, rode express, and manufactured firearms.
