Formative assessment in action focuses on five evidence-informed strategies that the teacher can use to support their learners to make progress. Formative assessment can help both the teacher and student understand what needs to be learned and how this can be achieved. During the learning process, formative assessment can identify students\' progress as well as highlighting gaps in their knowledge and understanding, therefore giving the teacher useful insight as to what feedback and instruction can be provided to continue to move learners forward. The book, part of the In Action series edited by Tom Sherrington, features a range of case studies from different subjects and key stages to show how formative assessment can be embedded across a curriculum successfully. About author(s): Kate Jones is Head of History at The British School Al Khubairat in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Originally from Wrexham in North Wales, Kate taught in the UK for six years at Elfed High School before relocating to the UAE in 2016. Kate is also a lead practitioner, specialising in teaching and learning. She provides regular training for educators and leaders both in the UK and internationally. Kate has spoken at various educational conferences around the world and is also the author of Love to Teach: Research and Resources for Every Classroom (2018), Retrieval Practice: Research & Resources for Every Classroom (2019), Retrieval Practice 2: Implementing, embedding & reflecting (2021) , and Retrieval Practice: Resource Guide (2021) .
